DEI sponsors Barber Shop & Game Night this Friday

Northwest Missouri State University's Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is hosting an event this Friday for students with ethnic hairstyles.

Coordinator of Diversity and Inclusion Adam Gonzales says that some students cannot find a proper stylist to cut their hair.

"For many of our students it's a challenge.  It's a barrier for them because they have to find not only the time to go down to Kansas City, which I believe is the nearest Barber Shop, but they have to find the ride, the money, spend all these extra resources just to get their haircut."

The event will host a special hairstylist from the Kansas City area who will cut hair for twenty dollars a person. The barber shop will be available Friday from 4 to 9 p.m. in North Complex.

Afterwards, the DEI Office will host a game night for students in the same area from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

"Part of that and in the same space starting from 6:30 until 9 p.m. we will have Game Night, which in the past has been really popular because it's a time when students can come and hang out, play card games, board games.  Some people bring plantations to set up over at North Complex."

Besides board games and card games, Game Night will include music, pool, and other types of entertainment.

Gonzales says that the purpose of the two events is to provide a fun space for students to socialize and relax before this weekend's homecoming festivities.
